Can roaming take a while at start-up?

Yes. When you start the phone or router with a roaming SIM, it can take a while before the device finds an available partner network and registers.

It is normal for the connection to take a minute or a few minutes, especially if you have just changed country, restarted the router or made a manual network selection.

Check that data roaming is switched on, and it is best to leave network selection on Auto. Wait a few minutes before changing other settings.

If the internet still does not work after a while, restart the router or make a manual network selection and test another operator.

Check the roaming setting

Data roaming allows the device to use a mobile network other than the SIM card’s home network. With Wifi.se’s roaming SIMs it normally has to be switched on when the card is used on partner networks. If roaming is switched off, the router may show a signal but still block data traffic.

How network selection works when roaming

When roaming, the device searches for available partner networks. Automatic network selection is normally the first choice, but if the connection does not work, manual network selection can be a good troubleshooting step. Remember: a network that appears in the list does not automatically mean that your SIM is allowed to register on it.

If it still does not work

Check the status of the service and then test one thing at a time. When you contact Wifi.se support, please tell us which router you are using, which SIM/eSIM it concerns, which country you are in and what you have already tested. That way we can start directly with the right troubleshooting step.
