Does roaming always cost extra?

Roaming can be much more expensive than ordinary browsing in your home country.

An ordinary Swedish mobile subscription, for example from Telia, Telenor or another operator, often includes a certain amount of roaming data within the EU, for example 50 GB or 100 GB. Once the included data has been used, extra roaming data can become expensive.

That is also why our Swedish SIM cards are not intended for roaming in the same way as our dedicated Europe or roaming SIMs.

With our roaming SIMs you instead buy a data package made for use abroad, with a fixed amount of data and a clear list of included countries.

Always check the terms of the data plan you use, as the included roaming data and any extra costs can differ between operators and subscriptions.

Check the roaming setting

Data roaming allows the device to use a mobile network other than the SIM card’s home network. With Wifi.se’s roaming SIMs it normally has to be switched on when the card is used on partner networks. If roaming is switched off, the router may show a signal but still block data traffic.

How network selection works when roaming

When roaming, the device searches for available partner networks. Automatic network selection is normally the first choice, but if the connection does not work, manual network selection can be a good troubleshooting step. Remember: a network that appears in the list does not automatically mean that your SIM is allowed to register on it.

If it still does not work

Check the status of the service and then test one thing at a time. When you contact Wifi.se support, please tell us which router you are using, which SIM/eSIM it concerns, which country you are in and what you have already tested. That way we can start directly with the right troubleshooting step.
