No, not necessarily. The Hybrid Traveller automatically chooses between 4G and 5G depending on which mobile network gives the best and most stable connection where you are.
So if the router shows 4G, it does not mean that it is faulty. In some places the 4G signal is stronger or more stable than 5G, even if there is 5G in the area.
What decides whether you get 4G or 5G?
It can depend on, among other things:
- the operator the SIM card is connected to
- the coverage where you are
- the distance to the nearest mobile mast
- buildings, hills, trees or other obstacles
- the load on the local mobile network
- where the router is placed
The Hybrid Traveller has powerful built-in antennas and is normally used without an external antenna. Try placing the router near a window or somewhere more open and see whether the signal improves.
4G can also give very good speed
What matters is not always whether the router shows 4G or 5G, but what speed and stability you actually get.
If the internet works well, you normally do not need to do anything, even if the router is connected to 4G.
If, on the other hand, you have low speed or repeated drop-outs, restart the router, check the SIM card and try a different placement before changing advanced network settings.
