Why does one operator work better?

Different operators have different mobile networks, masts, frequencies and coverage. That is why one operator can work much better than another in exactly the same place.

This is often very noticeable in Germany, where coverage and capacity can differ greatly between operators and regions. One operator may have a strong 5G signal where you are, while another only offers weaker or more heavily loaded 4G.

So if the router has automatically chosen a network that works poorly, you can try manual network selection and test another available operator.

This is also one of the reasons why we recommend a 5G router for travel in Europe. With an older 4G router, choice and performance are often poorer, especially in areas where the 4G network is heavily loaded.

How network selection works when roaming

When roaming, the device searches for available partner networks. Automatic network selection is normally the first choice, but if the connection does not work, manual network selection can be a good troubleshooting step. Remember: a network that appears in the list does not automatically mean that your SIM is allowed to register on it.

If it still does not work

Check the status of the service and then test one thing at a time. When you contact Wifi.se support, please tell us which router you are using, which SIM/eSIM it concerns, which country you are in and what you have already tested. That way we can start directly with the right troubleshooting step.
