What is most important to check before a roaming trip?

Before your trip, the most important thing is to check that your roaming SIM is active, the right data package is chosen and the country you are travelling to is included in the data plan.

Also check that data roaming is switched on in the router or phone and that network selection is normally set to Auto.

If you travel in Europe and want to use the internet, in practice you almost certainly need a 5G router. Unfortunately, we have therefore stopped supporting roaming in Europe when the SIM card is used in older 4G routers. If a roaming SIM works in the phone but not in the router, the problem is usually the router, its settings or its support for the networks used in the country.

It is best to test the SIM card in a phone before you leave. Switch off Wi-Fi and switch on both mobile data and data roaming. If the internet works in the phone, you know that the SIM card is active and working.

For the best possible connection in Europe we therefore recommend a 5G router.

Good to know about the roaming SIM

A roaming SIM connects to partner operators in the countries included in the package. Which mobile network is used can therefore vary from place to place. Data roaming normally needs to be switched on, and in some situations manual network selection can help if the automatic choice has got stuck on a weak or unavailable network.
