DNS works roughly like the internet’s phone book. When you type a name such as wifi.se, DNS translates the name into the IP address the computer or phone needs to find the right server.
If DNS has problems, the internet connection itself can work while websites do not open normally. Do not change DNS during ordinary troubleshooting unless you know why or have been given instructions.
Put simply
DNS translates names such as wifi.se into IP addresses the network can use. If DNS does not work, the internet connection can be active while websites still do not open. DNS is therefore a possible troubleshooting point, but should normally not be changed before simpler checks have been done.
Do not change more than necessary
Router settings such as APN, DNS, network mode and VPN can affect the whole internet connection. So change one setting at a time and note the original value before you change anything. Then you can easily go back if the result gets worse.
If it still does not work
Check the status of the service and then test one thing at a time. When you contact Wifi.se support, please tell us which router you are using, which SIM/eSIM it concerns, which country you are in and what you have already tested. That way we can start directly with the right troubleshooting step.
