If the router shows Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, you can choose the network that best suits the device and where you are.
Choose 2.4 GHz if:
- you are further away from the router
- the signal has to pass through walls or other obstacles
- the device only supports 2.4 GHz
- you are connecting, for example, a heat pump, smart home devices or older devices
Choose 5 GHz if:
- you are close to the router
- you want higher Wi-Fi speed
- you stream films or use other services that need more speed
- your device supports 5 GHz
If you are unsure
Start with 5 GHz if you are close to the router and want high speed. If the signal is weak or the connection drops, test 2.4 GHz instead.
Remember that Wi-Fi on 5 GHz is not the same as the 5G mobile network.
