Firmware is the built-in software that controls the router. Among other things, it manages the mobile network, Wi-Fi, security, lights and how the router communicates with its components.
Why is the firmware updated?
- To fix bugs and improve stability.
- To improve compatibility with mobile networks and SIM cards.
- For security updates.
- For new or improved features.
Do not cut the power during an ongoing update unless a Wifi.se guide explicitly says otherwise.
During an update
Do not switch off the router while the firmware is being updated. The device may restart automatically, and it can take a few minutes for Wi-Fi and the mobile connection to come back. If an update has just been done, wait until the router has fully started before you begin troubleshooting.
Do not change more than necessary
Router settings such as APN, DNS, network mode and VPN can affect the whole internet connection. So change one setting at a time and note the original value before you change anything. Then you can easily go back if the result gets worse.
If it still does not work
Check the status of the service and then test one thing at a time. When you contact Wifi.se support, please tell us which router you are using, which SIM/eSIM it concerns, which country you are in and what you have already tested. That way we can start directly with the right troubleshooting step.
