Can I use a surveillance camera?

Yes. You can use a surveillance camera with our routers, as long as the camera can connect to Wi-Fi and the internet connection is stable enough.

Keep the following in mind

Many surveillance cameras use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. So if the camera cannot find the network, check that 2.4 GHz is enabled in the router.

The camera can also use data when it:

  • sends notifications
  • uploads video clips to the cloud
  • records continuously
  • is used for remote live viewing

Data usage can therefore vary a lot depending on the camera’s settings and how often it is used.

If you want to view the camera remotely

Most modern surveillance cameras use the manufacturer’s app or cloud service and therefore normally also work over mobile internet.

But some older or more advanced camera systems need special network settings, for example port forwarding or a public IP address. This does not always work on mobile networks.

So check the camera manufacturer’s requirements if you use a more advanced surveillance system.
