What does LTE/5G mean?

LTE is a name for 4G mobile networks, while 5G is the newer generation of mobile networks.

So on a router, LTE/5G shows which type of mobile network the router uses for its internet connection.

LTE / 4G

LTE is used for 4G and normally gives a stable internet connection, for example for:

  • ordinary browsing
  • email
  • streaming
  • remote work
  • connecting several devices

5G

5G can offer higher speed and more capacity than 4G, especially in places with good 5G coverage.

But how fast the internet is always depends on things like coverage, distance to the mobile mast, network load and the mobile network the router is connected to.

Do I need to choose myself?

With our 5G routers we normally recommend leaving the network mode on Auto. The router can then automatically choose between 4G/LTE and 5G depending on which connection works best where you are.
