No. Wi-Fi and the internet are not the same thing.
Wi-Fi is the wireless network the router creates between itself and your devices. The internet is the actual connection to the outside world.
How it works
The router gets the internet via 4G or 5G from the mobile network, for example. It then shares it over Wi-Fi with phones, computers, TVs and other devices.
So your phone or computer can show that it is connected to Wi-Fi even if the router has no working internet connection.
If the Wi-Fi works but there is no internet
Then check, among other things:
- whether the SIM card is active
- that there is data left
- whether the router has contact with the mobile network
- whether roaming is switched on, if needed
- which lights are on on the router
So the Wi-Fi symbol only means that the device has contact with the router, not always that the internet works.
