Can a loose cable cause a poor signal?

Yes. A loose or badly connected antenna cable can cause a poorer signal, an unstable connection or lower speed.

If the router uses several antenna cables for 4G/5G, it is important that all the cables are firmly seated in the correct antenna connectors.

Check the connections

If the signal is poor:

  • check that all the antenna cables are firmly attached
  • check that the cables are on the right connectors
  • make sure the connectors are not damaged or crooked
  • check that the cable is not sharply bent, pinched or damaged

Carefully tighten the connectors by hand. Do not use tools and do not overtighten, as the antenna connectors can be damaged.

After checking the cables, you can restart the router and see whether the signal has improved.
