5-Star Campsites in Sweden

Until just a few years ago, camping was a nearly ridiculed form of vacation with cramped caravans, small tents, and shabby campsites where you could basically only buy paper and ice cream.

Today, camping is something completely different.

More and more campsites have transformed into resort-like facilities with adventure pools, restaurants with full rights, and modern cabins.

Swedes now love camping. Camping is the most popular form of accommodation in Sweden, with over 16 million guest nights every year.

Svensk Camping (SCR Swedish Camping) is the most legitimate industry organization for Swedish campsites. SCR’s members are located in all corners of Sweden. Here you’ll find everything from large chains and camping resorts to smaller family businesses. Together, they host more than 1 million guests each year.

The majority of all campsites are classified according to SCR’s classification system, Swedish Camping Standard (The Industry Organization SCR Swedish Camping). The classification measures what is offered at the campsite and the standard that is maintained. It makes it easier to make a safe choice to compare and evaluate different options. The classification also makes it easier to find the best campsite for you and your family.

The classifications of campsites are carried out by an external party, and there is also a special classification board assigned to interpret the rules and make decisions on appeals and exemptions. The number of stars gives you a clear idea of the standard you can expect at the campsite. The stars summarize the ratings the campsite has received in the four areas of hygiene, environment, service, and activities.

In Sweden, there are sixteen five-star campsites. Here you get the best possible service, and you can be sure to experience a beautiful environment, good hygiene, and a rich selection of activities. The popularity of these campsites has led to more and more “luxury camping” sites in Sweden. Last year, two new campsites joined the list of five-star campsites in Sweden: Orsa Camping and Ursands Camping in Vänersborg.

Some of the five-star campsites include Böda Sand Beach Resort on Öland, Pite Havsbad, Uppland Resort & Camping, Apelviken in Halland, and Kneippbyn Resort Visby, where Pippi Longstocking lives.

Camping has never been more popular – or more comfortable! Today, camping is like going on a charter holiday, but cheaper.
