There are several easy ways to reduce data usage, especially if you use a limited data package.
How to save data
- lower the picture quality on Netflix, YouTube and other streaming services
- avoid 4K streaming if it is not needed
- switch off automatic app and system updates
- pause large Windows or macOS updates
- limit automatic backup to iCloud, Google Photos and other cloud services
- switch off devices that do not need to be online
- avoid large downloads when you use a limited data package
- switch off the camera in Teams or Zoom when video is not needed
Remember the router’s Wi-Fi
When the phone, computer or TV is connected to the router over Wi-Fi, it still uses data from the SIM card’s data package.
The device may therefore, for example, start backing up photos or downloading updates automatically because it thinks it is connected to an ordinary Wi-Fi network.
