Does roaming have to be switched on?

Yes. When you use our Europe or roaming SIMs, data roaming must be switched on in the phone or router.

Roaming allows the SIM card to use our partner operators’ mobile networks in the country you are in. If roaming is switched off, the device may still show a signal or be connected to a mobile network, but the internet does not work properly.

So always check that mobile data and data roaming are switched on before looking at other settings.

Check the roaming setting

Data roaming allows the device to use a mobile network other than the SIM card’s home network. With Wifi.se’s roaming SIMs it normally has to be switched on when the card is used on partner networks. If roaming is switched off, the router may show a signal but still block data traffic.

How network selection works when roaming

When roaming, the device searches for available partner networks. Automatic network selection is normally the first choice, but if the connection does not work, manual network selection can be a good troubleshooting step. Remember: a network that appears in the list does not automatically mean that your SIM is allowed to register on it.

If it still does not work

Check the status of the service and then test one thing at a time. When you contact Wifi.se support, please tell us which router you are using, which SIM/eSIM it concerns, which country you are in and what you have already tested. That way we can start directly with the right troubleshooting step.
