Can a damaged cable cause a poor signal?

Yes. A damaged antenna cable can cause a poorer signal, lower speed or an unstable internet connection.

Even a small amount of damage to the cable or connector can affect how well the signal reaches the router.

Check the cable

If you suspect that a cable is damaged, check:

  • whether the cable is pinched or sharply bent
  • whether the outer sheath is damaged
  • whether the connector is loose, crooked or deformed
  • whether the cable is firmly seated in the correct connector on the router

Do not pull hard on the antenna cables or bend them sharply, especially near the connectors.

If the signal stays poor even after checking all the connections, the cable or the antenna may need to be tested or replaced.
