WiFi in the Motorhome

Like many others, I live with a mobile phone with unlimited data. In Sweden. Abroad I am limited to 100 GB/month. Not a small amount, but not a huge amount either for a modern vanlifer who needs to share their life on all kinds of social media. You do not want to watch YouTube in less than 4K resolution, or upload videos yourself in measly 1080p.

Considering that I was planning a three-week trip around Europe through several countries, I felt my phone would struggle to keep up. So I chose a router from Wifi.se loaded with one of their 400 GB roaming SIMs.

5G is a must

Wifi.se offers several different router solutions. We have tested several of them. Both with and without an external antenna. Always with good results. The editorial team’s globetrotter, Håkan, has concluded that if you want good reception today, 5G technology is the way to go. Not because 4G no longer exists. But since the 2G and 3G networks were shut down, a lot of traffic has moved to the 4G network, which is now so heavily loaded that speeds are low.
