There are different ways to camp: Tent, caravan, holiday home, or cabin. But whichever method you choose, the location and offerings of the campsite are important, especially for families with children who like to stay a little longer in one place.
All families have different preferences for their vacation, and the criteria are not equally important or unimportant for everyone. A good idea is to make your own checklist and prioritize what is most important for you and what you are willing to compromise on. There are different types of vacation accommodations within the categories of camping and cabins.
If you’re on a road trip, parking options are probably high on your checklist. Does the campsite offer parking (guarded or unguarded), and what does it cost? If you’re not on a road trip but want to visit sights, it’s good to check how far it is to buses, trains, trams, and subways.
It’s important to know what services the campsite offers, such as tourist information, laundry services, booking excursions, car/bike rentals, and more. For families with children, a play area, nearby playground, pool table or ping-pong table, kids’ clubs, and/or a pool are important factors.
If there is a pool or pool area and you’re traveling with young children, check that it matches your preferences regarding a children’s pool (preferably with shade), pool depth, the ability to keep an eye on the children, and the water temperature.
If there are restaurants and eateries on or near the campsite, that’s a good thing. Sometimes you’re tired after a whole day of excursions and adventures, and it’s convenient to eat within reach without having to look for a restaurant. Is there a children’s menu or children’s portions and high chairs? If there are many child-friendly restaurant options within walking distance, that’s even better.
