It is the profile that tells the phone or router how to connect to the operator&#8217;s data network.<\/p>\n<p>Think of the APN as an address to the right internet connection at the operator. If the APN is missing or wrong, the device can still show a signal and be registered on the mobile network but still have no internet.<\/p>\n<h3>When do you need to think about the APN?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>When a SIM works in a phone but not in the router.<\/li>\n<li>When you have a signal but no internet connection.<\/li>\n<li>When you switch to a SIM from another operator or roaming solution.<\/li>\n<li>When support explicitly asks you to check the APN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On many modern devices the APN is set automatically from the SIM card. So do not change the APN unnecessarily.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wifi-faq-v4\" data-v4-expanded=\"1\">\n<h3>What the APN does<\/h3>\n<p>APN stands for <em>Access Point Name<\/em> and tells the mobile network how the data connection should be set up. A wrong APN can mean that the router has a signal and registers on a mobile network but still has no internet.<\/p>\n<p>The APN is normally filled in automatically. Only change it if a Wifi.se guide or support gives a specific value. After changing the APN you should save the setting and restart the data connection or the router.<\/p>\n<h3>Do not change more than necessary<\/h3>\n<p>Router settings such as APN, DNS, network mode and VPN can affect the whole internet connection. So change one setting at a time and note the original value before you change anything.
