{"id":33208,"date":"2026-09-20T10:50:06","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T08:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wifi.se\/en\/blog\/faq\/what-is-wi-fi\/"},"modified":"2026-09-20T10:50:06","modified_gmt":"2026-09-20T08:50:06","slug":"what-is-wi-fi","status":"publish","type":"faq","link":"https:\/\/wifi.se\/en\/blog\/faq\/what-is-wi-fi\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Wi-Fi?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Wi-Fi<\/strong> is the wireless network that the router creates so that your devices can connect to the internet without a network cable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">With Wi-Fi you can connect, for example:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>phones<\/li>\n<li>tablets<\/li>\n<li>computers<\/li>\n<li>smart TVs<\/li>\n<li>media players<\/li>\n<li>other wireless devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Wi-Fi and the mobile network are not the same thing<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The router gets its internet connection via <strong>4G or 5G from the mobile network<\/strong>. It then shares the internet with your devices over Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">So you can be connected to the router&#8217;s Wi-Fi even if the router currently has no internet connection.<\/p>\n<h3>Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz<\/h3>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Many routers offer <strong>Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>2.4 GHz<\/strong> normally has a longer range and works with many different types of device.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>5 GHz<\/strong> can give higher speed over shorter distances but usually has a slightly shorter range.<\/p>\n<p>This must not be confused with the <strong>5G mobile network<\/strong>.
